Abstract

To the Editor:—  Dr. Dock is quite right in his assertion that the word "rate" is inappropriate. This term was used inadvertently since, in our studies, we were concerned with the level of venous pressure versus time.There is another oversight in our paper which Dr. Dock does not mention, namely, that in Figures 3 and 4 the abscissae should have been expressed in "Cal/M2" and not "Cal/M2/HR," so that each abscissa should read in terms of quantity rather than rate.It is quite sensible to speak of "effective body heat storage" in the presence of a hot environment during heat dissipation. Body heat storage, better known as qs throughout the literature, is simply a way of quantitating the stored heat which has accumulated as a result of a high flux of radiant energy on the body, in the face of relatively meager heat dissipation.The
