To the Editor:—  In the answer to the inquiry on postherpetic pain in The Journal, Aug. 13, page 1769, I was surprised to note that the excellent answer given by your consultant did not include mention of the use of adrenal steroids in the treatment of this condition. There are a number of references to the use of these preparations in the literature (e. g., Sauer, AMA Arch Derm71:488, 1955; Frank and Lysiak, New York J Med52:2379, 1953).Certainly, in the case in question, should the patient fail to respond to the therapy recommended, use of steroids would be indicated.
