To the Editor:—  I was impressed by Dr. Viets' most erudite discussion on the correct spelling of the family name of Monsieur Laennec [in the article cited]. He takes great pains to show why the diaeresis over the second initial vowel should be dropped. His many words and 37 lines about 2 little dots, however, make the whole thing look like badly split hair as one detects the following 6 mistakes in his letter of correction: "La Press Méd" (which should read Presse Méd.) and "De L'Auscultation Médiate," which should lose all but its first capital letter, as French book titles do not follow the English capitalization system.
