Abstract

To the Editor:—  It appears that Dr. Bigg (JAMA199: 343, 1967) has neglected to check his references. He falls subject to the common misconception that the forbidden fruit was an apple. This word is not mentioned at all either in Genesis or in any other biblical reference to the fall. The word used is "fruit." Before a correspondent refers to Jonah and the "whale," let me remind him that it was a "great fish" that the Lord prepared to save Jonah from the sea.
