This handsome two-volume set is the result of eight years' work by the editors and the 28 contributors. Their obviously broad experiences permit them to describe the various pathologic processes with authority and lucidity. In general, the descriptions are considerably more detailed than those in textbooks and are often as detailed as those in review articles or monographs. The text, for the most part, can be read quickly and easily with profit and with pleasure at its clarity. The chapters by Friedmann on the nose and nasal sinuses, nasopharynx, larynx, and ear are especially well done.
Almost all of the numerous photographs are excellent and have obviously been selected with great care. While the references are not so numerous as in American texts, they also have been carefully selected. Unfortunately few are later than 1964.
However, there are a number of minor faults. The reader expecting the "comprehensive" and "up-todate"
