I was both amused and annoyed at an article in the MEDICAL NEWS section of The Journal (231:451, 1975) concerning the possible association of hepatic cell adenomas and oral contraceptives.In 1970 when I wrote the first paper on the subject, on the basis of three cases, I submitted it to The Journal for publication. It was rejected with a comment to the effect that the possible relationship was ridiculous and that possibly I should write up the case histories as interesting case reports and forget about the rest of the article.In 1973, after I had seen four more cases, I rewrote the article and submitted to Lancet; it was published in the Oct 27, 1973, issue.I am glad to see that editors of The Journal have finally recognized the possible significance of this problem. It was somewhat discouraging, however, to note that the author of
