The burgeoning size of the second edition of this important work in renal disease attests to the major developments in the study of these disorders in the last decade. Extensive new knowledge has become available through the use of immunological procedures and through the use of the electron microscope during this interval. (Alas! Resolution of the etiologies and resolution of the methods of treatment have not kept pace.) The utilization of occasional guest essayists enhances the quality of the book and in no way detracts from the extraordinary efforts of Dr. Heptinstall in producing such a work.
Both he and the publisher are to be congratulated in utilizing sufficient print to expose adequately the problem discussed. The text is very well done and the illustrative material is excellent. A part of the increase in size is due to the extensive addition of the electron microscopic photographs. Some might find fault
