Abstract

The authors have succeeded in their efforts to present the basic physiological knowledge essential for the intelligent management of the acutely ill. Even the more complex and sophisticated concepts, such as the force-velocity relationship of muscle, are made remarkably clear. Because the book is well illustrated and the text is clearly written it becomes a simple matter for the reader to become familiar with modern-day concepts of cardio-pulmonary physiology.

It is difficult in this day and age to care for the acutely ill without having some understanding of the underlying pathophysiology. This book will more than amply serve this purpose, and in addition, it is recommended as a departing point for those who may find this area of pathophysiology interesting and care to pursue it in depth.
