This excellent and very comprehensive treatise on the thyroid and its diseases is edited by two of the leaders in the field. The editors give a summary and review of each section as it relates to their own experiences.
The first part of the book takes up the anatomy, embryology, and physiology of the normal thyroid and the control of thyroid function. The second part concerns the laboratory assessment of thyroid function, and the last part discusses diseases of the thyroid. The individual chapters are written by different authors, most of whom are experts and have had considerable experience in particular areas of thyroidology. As is true of most multiauthored textbooks, there is variation in the quality of contribution, and not all chapters are thoroughly up to date. However, this does not detract significantly from the overall excellence of the book.
