Abstract

To the Editor:—  I am writing about the editorial, "The Unpredictable Fatty Tumors," (204:923 1968).The statement that in one series "liposarcomas... constituted 20% of malignant tumors" should be modified to the effect that they constituted 20% of malignant mesenchymal tumors or sarcomas. The survey by Stout was not made at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology but was based on the records of the Division of Surgical Pathology at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. The AFIP published Stout's monograph. There is what is probably an obvious misprint: It is stated that angiosarcoma in any part of the body, etc. Instead of "angiosarcoma" the text should read "liposarcoma."I believe these comments are necessary to put back the difficult problem of liposarcoma in its proper perspective.
