To the Editor.—
In the recent article by Eastwood, it would have been desirable to have measured serum electrolytes in each patient on the day before and shortly preceding the radiologic examination. In some of my patients there has been a significant fall in serum potassium or sodium levels due to the purgation prescribed in preparation for the barium enema. Hence, it is possible that hypokalemia may be a factor in some of the cases with arrhythmias associated with the procedure.
