This is the fifth volume in a series of texts designed to review facets of surgery in which significant progress has been made within the past two years. It represents a high-quality "catch up" analysis of six areas of general concern to the practicing surgeon. The sections, written mostly by distinguished and experienced clinicians, include such diverse areas of interest as hemorrhoidectomy, advances in clinical diagnostic roentgenology, surgery of pancreatic, parathyroid, and adrenal endocrine tumors, diverticular disease of the colon, biologic principles affecting repair of flexor tendons, and intra-abdominal sepsis. A particularly timely section on the present status of tumor immunology is also included.
Like its predecessors, this text is illustrated and each division ends with a detailed bibliography, numbering, in one instance, in excess of 300 references—enough, in short, for the more serious reader to pursue each covered area in as much depth as he might happen to want.
