This monograph, depicting surgical anatomy of the thorax, is written by an outstanding surgeon-anatomist, a superb medical illustrator, and a respected cardiothoracic surgeon. The combination has produced an atlas of unusual quality and relevance.
The entire thorax is carefully covered in this work, with 134 very useful illustrations. The authors have presented in a highly commendable manner alternative surgical approaches for a variety of standard procedures. Moreover, there is more narrative than is customarily provided in a surgical atlas and this welcome addition provides pertinent and explanatory data. The line illustrations of Malone are each of outstanding quality and uniquely emphasize the important features. In appropriate circumstances, illustrations published in the literature by others have been selected with care and for obvious reasons.
In a praiseworthy manner this volume collects most of the techniques used in the field of thoracic and cardiac surgery. It is gratifyingly complete with, for example,
