To the Editor.—
The performance of Dr. Kavanagh's patients in the Boston Marathon demonstrates the level of fitness possible after myocardial infarction (224:1580,1973). These men from the Toronto Rehabilitation Center have given us the logical graduation ceremony for any cardiac rehabilitation program, since there has never been a documented fatal myocardial infarct among marathon finishers of any age (223:1391, 1973). I feel certain that the long-term follow-up of these patients will demonstrate the protective aspects of distance running in middle-aged persons.
