Abstract

This second edition, appearing six years after the first, has been expanded into two volumes that contain 1,265 illustrations, of which approximately 700 are new. The quality of the roentgenographic reproductions is an outstanding feature of the book. All illustrations are large and many fill an entire page. The legends are succinct but explanatory and allow the illustrations to be viewed as an atlas, without reference to the text.

The descriptions of disease, when appropriate, include the name and synonyms, followed by an introduction, short descriptions of etiology, clinical, laboratory, and pathologic features, and an extensive review of roentgenographic features. Bone lesions that result from different diseases may appear similar on roentgenograms and these necessitate referral to clinical observations for diagnosis. The pertinent information is presented and an extensive bibliography includes recent articles on all aspects of skeletal disease.
