Abstract

In the review of the first edition of this manuscript for The Journal in 1965, I predicted that Newell's textbook was destined to become a classic in ophthalmic literature. It is very reassuring, in light of this early appraisal, to observe the popularity of this text with the third edition now in print. Dr. J. T. Ernest has joined Dr. Newell as coauthor of this edition and brings further expertise in the field of retinal physiology and retinal diseases.
