Abstract

Dr Berman and Mr Rabinowitz are absolutely correct; the statement about swabbing should be retracted. As stated in the article, immediate treatment for presumed H influenzae with ampicillin sodium or chloramphenicol should be instituted, and the patient should be watched closely for respiratory obstruction.
