Pneumococcal Vaccine After Splenectomy

To the Editor.—  A recent question and answer dealt with increased risk of sepsis following splenectomy in a 16-year-old patient. Since the most common organism causing such sepsis is D pneumoniae, I wonder why the use of pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine was not suggested, as recommended by the Center for Disease Control.1
