Abstract

In the article entitled "NIH Weighs in for Active Disease-Prevention Role" (JAMA. 1993;270:2153-2154), the first sentence in the first full paragraph on page 2154 was incorrectly stated and should be deleted. The paragraph should consist of the following statement: "As Lee told the meeting participants, he expects the NIH to provide the scientific undergirding to support what will be used in putting preventive disease programs and health services into action."

In the article entitled "From the Assistant Secretary for Health, US Public Health Service" (JAMA. 1993;270:2670), the third full sentence in the center column should read as follows: "All have suffered as the amount spent on public health has declined from 1.2 cents of the national health dollar to 0.9 cent."
