An error occurred in the CONCEPTS IN EMERGENCY AND CRITICAL CARE entitled "Management of the Patient With Hemorrhaging Esophageal Varices," published in the Sept 19 issue of The Journal (1986;256:1480-1484). On page 1484, the first sentence in the second paragraph should have read as follows: "At present, we recommend use of endoscopic variceal sclerotherapy for the control of active variceal bleeding, with employment of balloon tamponade and intravenous vasopressin if sclerotherapy is unsuccessful [not 'successful']."
