To the Editor.—
This MD became SOB (short of breath), D&C (depressed and catatonic), and T&A (tormented and agitated) as I read the symbols "P&S" in the MMWR (Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report), as published in JAMA.1The initials "P&S" do not mean, and should never mean, "primary and secondary" (as in syphilis)! To our faculty, students, and alumni, "P&S" stands for one thing only, our alma mater, the Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons.
Silverman JA. P(rimary) & S(econdary)? No! Columbia Is O(ne) and O(nly). JAMA. 1987;257(10):1331. doi:10.1001/jama.1987.03390100069020
