Abstract

To the Editor.—  Your correspondent's letter under the heading "Sick Stethoscope Syndrome"1 reminded me of an occasion many years ago in Africa when I, never a strong clinician, felt that I was hearing even less than usual through my stethoscope. Dismantling the chest piece showed that a mud wasp had built her paralyzed-grub-containing mud capsule inside the "bell," through its narrow orifice, almost without external trace.
