Abstract

In Reply.—  I am sorry that Dr Portnoi misunderstands the intent of the teaching nursing home. I do not regard the "institutional setting (hospital and nursing home) as the most important site placements for teaching geriatrics to medical students and senior residents." I do regard it as essential that both ambulatory and institutional settings be available for teaching and research to advance our knowledge about the care of older patients.
