I have received 27 letters of response from doctors and their spouses across the nation. Of those, 26 were written by kind, concerned people offering advice and sharing memories. The letter from Dr Weiss-Harrison is the single exception.I have to wonder at her suggestion that I "become friendly." Six months have passed since I wrote "Our New Home." I have made some good friends here during that time, and none of the people with whom I have become friendly share her attitude toward others who are reaching out for help.As for persistence in seeking employment, I'm sure my weekly appearance at Job Service, holding a preschooler by the hand and an infant strapped to my back, might have convinced even Dr Weiss-Harrison of my determination, as would the long hours spent at the typewriter, on the telephone, and poring over the want ads.
