Abstract

This text is primarily intended as a ready reference book both for house officers and for practicing clinicians. As such, it fits nicely into its own niche somewhere between the longer endocrine texts such as Williams and the clinical pocket manuals of endocrinology.

Compared with some other endocrine treatises, this book focuses more heavily on the practical clinical aspects of endocrinology, but it handles them in an authoritative and definitive fashion. The biochemical and physiological aspects of endocrinology are discussed primarily as they bear directly on the clinical approach to endocrine problem solving. Considerable space is devoted in each chapter to a discussion of relevant clinical tests available in each area of endocrinology, and the various authors have done a commendable job of placing the different diagnostic options in proper perspective.

The contributors are generally wellrecognized senior academicians who have themselves made major research contributions to endocrinology. The text is
