In this text, Dr Silber has brought together the vast experience of experts in various surgical fields. As a compendium of information on this relatively new and exciting area, Microsurgery is long overdue. Much of what is included in this text is available in the contributors' individual papers, but Silber and his coauthors have done a remarkably good job of collecting and correlating this material to present the current state of the art. Ophthalmology, otolaryngology, and hand surgery have been intentionally excluded.
This book will be unique in opening new vistas in the field of surgery, and will stimulate those persons interested in microsurgery and its many applications. The reader need only examine any single chapter to be flooded with ideas for laboratory projects. To use this text as a "howto-do-it" book would be unjust to the authors' apparent intentions. The novice must not proceed from book to patient, but,
