Notice of Duplicate Publication

JAMA. 1988;259(18):2698. doi:10.1001/jama.1988.03720180026026
Abstract

The letter from Dr Bogart1 published in the Jan 8 issue of JAMA under the title "A Second-Opinion Program for Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery" was previously published in the Greater Kansas City Medical Bulletin (November 1987 issue, p 21), though Dr Bogart had assigned all copyright ownership to the American Medical Association in October 1987. Our guidelines clearly state that "letters must not duplicate other material published or submitted for publication."

Dr Bogart apologizes, saying that he misunderstood the copyright ownership. It was his understanding that it meant that the material should not be published in any medical journal and he did not consider the Greater Kansas City Medical Bulletin to be a medical journal.—Ed.
