To the Editor.
—I am writing to congratulate you on the publication of the Brief Report by Dr Witte and colleagues.1 As a veteran clinical investigator, I know how difficult it is to reconcile differences about scientific data, especially once they are published. On the other hand, such debate and reconciliation are essential to keep the integrity of the scientific enterprise at an acceptable level both for our own sense of truth and for the public's perception of us and their support of research.I am ashamed and embarrassed by the behavior of the editors of Science and proud and supportive of the editors of JAMA.
