Abstract

An error occurred in the Original Contribution entitled "Are Racial Differences in the Prevalence of Diabetes in Adults Explained by Differences in Obesity?" published in the September 15 issue of The Journal (1989;262:1484-1488). On page 1488, the second sentence in the second column should have read as follows: "The racial differences we observed probably result from an excess of individuals with NIDDM because persons who developed diabetes [not 'an excess of individuals with NIDDM who developed diabetes'] at the peak age of onset for insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (ie, childhood) were excluded from this study, and because less than one third of those who have diagnosed diabetes in both racial groups were being treated with insulin."
