ARMED FORCES HEALTH PROFESSIONS SCHOLARSHIPS PROGRAM (AFHPSP)  The AFHPSP, established by the Uniformed Services Health Professions Revitalization Act of 1972, is a Department of Defense educational assistance program for obtaining designated health professionals for military service. Both men and women participate in the AFHPSP.The program provides scholarships for eligible persons in accredited educational institutions within the United States and Puerto Rico in return for a combined active-duty and reserve service obligation. Scholarships are being offered to medical, optometry (sponsored by the Army), and nurse anesthesia students. Recipients of AFHPSP scholarships are paid a monthly stipend. Payment also is authorized for educational expenses that may be incurred, including tuition, fees, books, laboratory expenses, and educational services.The Army, Navy, and Air Force each process applications for their participants in the AFHPSP.
