An error occurred in an International Abstract entitled "Use of a Fermented Powdered Milk in Malnourished or Lactose Intolerant Children," published in the August 22/29 issue of The Journal (1990;264:977, 978, 980). On page 978, in the second abstract from the journal Presse Medicale, the first sentence should have read as follows: "Lactase-deficient [not lactosedeficient] subjects, who form the bulk of the world population, absorb yogurt lactose because the bacteria used for fermentation produce β-galactosidase."
