Abstract

—In the Letter to the Editor entitled "Legislating Tobacco Use: Are Subsidies Hypocritical?" published in the March 22/ 29,1995, issue of The Journal (1995;273:919), the third and fourth sentences in the first paragraph of Dr Califano's reply should read, "Tobacco farmers and cigarette manufacturers now finance most of the cost of tobacco subsidies. Furthermore, the effect of tobacco subsidies is only enough to increase the price of a pack of cigarettes by 2 to 3 cents."
