Correction: Medical News & Perspectives on Needle Exchange Programs

Abstract

To the Editor.  —Charles Marwick's Medical News & Perspectives article1 on the Foundation for Drug Policy's March congressional forum on needle exchange programs (NEPs) contains an error that should be corrected. The article states that the three-volume, 700-page report2I prepared with colleagues from the University of California for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has never been released by the US Department of Health and Human Services. In fact, more than 12 000 copies of the various volumes of the report have been distributed since the report was released in the fall of 1993, almost all by the CDC's National AIDS Clearinghouse.What had not been released were internal government documents on NEPs, one of which reviewed the University of California report shortly after its release. After consulting with four other federal agencies, CDC Director Dr David Satcher wrote to the US Department of Health
