Abstract

Anesthesia Simulator Consultant version 2.0 represents a major enhancement of the first version of this simulation software for the management of anesthesia during surgery. Its value in providing "experience" in handling uncommon problems is enhanced by expansion of the caseload to 80 different clinical scenarios.

New in version 2.0 are pediatric and obstetric patients and outpatients; still included are adult general surgery, neurosurgery, and cardiac surgery cases. Anesthesia management techniques have been expanded to include regional blocks (spinal, epidural, axillary, Bier, interscalene, retrobulbar, and sciatic-femoral). Since one goal of the simulation is to allow the user to experience complications and management problems, the program allows the choice of deliberate or random problems with the first four cases only. The remaining cases present either complicated management problems or fixed complications.
