Abstract

The fourth edition of this biochemistry book will be welcomed by those who are acquainted with the preceding three editions. Since the introduction of the first edition in 1974, this text has provided students of medical biochemistry with a valuable resource for relating basic biochemical concepts to practical problems in clinical medicine. The current edition preserves this usefulness and adds both to the cases presented and to the basic biochemical information related to these cases.

This text is the product of the teaching program in biochemistry at the University of Iowa, Iowa City. In the third and fourth editions enough biochemical information has been added that the authors believe the biochemical content is adequate for a one-semester course in biochemistry. A substantial amount of this information is included in the discussions of the case problems. Although some schools may find this book adequate as the sole text for a beginning
