Abstract

To the Editor.—  In the letter by Bass,1 it was pointed out that modern volatile anesthetics might be abused by hospital personnel.I agree with his opinion. In our brief review2 on the illicit use of modern volatile anesthetics, it was revealed that halothane caused at least 11 reported deaths due to its illicit use. For suicidal purpose, halothane was intravenously injected or ingested, and for mood elevation, it was sniffed. The danger of abuse of modern volatile anesthetics requires more careful control of the drugs.
