Abstract

—Some incorrect values were given in the Original Contribution entitled "Computerized Surveillance of Adverse Drug Events in Hospital Patients," published in the November 27, 1991, issue of THE JOURNAL (1991;266:2847-2851). In the first column on page 2849, the second sentence in the second complete paragraph should have read as follows: "Therefore, among the 36 653 total patients, 731 ADEs occurred, for an overall ADE rate of 1.99% [not 1.67%]." The fifth sentence in this same paragraph should have read as follows: "Patients who experienced an ADE received an average of 33 drug exposures vs only 7.7 [not 13] drug exposures among patients who did not experience an ADE (P<.05)." In Table 1, for patients with verified ADEs, the total ADE rate should have been 1.99% [not 1.67%] and the mean drug exposures for patients ≤60 years should have been 28 [not 23] and for >60 years, 37 [not 32].
