This attractive book might be characterized as a compromise between a complete textbook and a synopsis of pediatrics. It is much smaller than the most popular textbook in pediatrics, yet has less than half the number of pages. However, it is larger than the fifth edition of Hughes' Synopsis of Pediatrics, but has no more pages.
The book is softbound, with two columns to the page, and has many well-composed tables and figures. Adequate references at the end of each chapter are selective and alphabetically presented. Sixty-five authors contributed to the book and skillful editing accomplished a better than usual text in both consistency and clarity of expression.
Subjects of a general nature relating to infants and children are presented in a conventional manner, followed by problems encountered in systems and anatomic portions of the body. The chapter "Disorders of Behavior and of Emotional and Cognitive Development" is practical, although
