Abstract

—Some errors occurred in the Original Contribution entitled "Reduced Mortality Risk in Alcoholics Who Achieve Long-term Abstinence," published in the February 5, 1992, issue of The Journal (1992;267:668-672). In Table 3, the fifth column (99% CI [confidence interval]) should have been placed after the third column (Expected) with the column heading changed to "99% CI for the Expectation." This change will show that the CIs are correctly associated with the relationship of expected to observed numbers of deaths, rather than to the standardized mortality ratio (SMR) beside which it was placed.
