Abstract

Dubois' Lupus Erythematosus, by Daniel J. Wallace and Bevra Hannahs Hahn, 4th ed, 955 pp, with illus, $125, ISBN 0-8121-1558-9, Philadelphia, Pa, Lea & Febiger, 1993.

Robert Lahita, editor of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, justifies a new edition only five years after having devoted nearly 1000 pages to a single ailment by the "many new avenues of immunologic research [and] a greater interest in lupus as a major disease."

In addition to the mass of new information on all aspects of lupus erythematosus (LE), which is ably reviewed, specific improvements convert this edition into a really superior reference. Inexplicable gaps in the first edition, such as no consideration of epidemiology and virtually none of hepatic problems, have been rectified. The largest block of new information is contained in two chapters on the antiphospholipid syndrome, most of which has been discovered since the first edition was published.
