Abstract

Correction to Letter.  —In the Letter entitled, "Very Low-Fat Diets for Coronary Heart Disease: Perhaps, But Which One?" by Drs Siguel, MacBeath, and Lerman, published in the May 8, 1996, issue of THE JOURNAL (JAMA. 1996;275:1402), the second paragraph of the letter should have included the following sentence, inserted after the sixth sentence of the paragraph: "The patient had EFA [essential fatty acid] deficiency as demonstrated by the elevated trienoic-totetraenoic ratio (20:3ω-9/20:4ω-6) of 0.021 (upper limit of normal=0.020)." Dr Gould's letter in reply (JAMA. 1996;275:1402-1403) stated that the trienoic-to-tetraenoic ratio was not performed; Dr Siguel states that it was.
