Abstract

Incorrect Quotation.  —In the Medical News & Perspectives article entitled "Penicillium marneffei Part of Southeast Asian AIDS," published in the July 10, 1996, issue of THE JOURNAL (1996;276:86-87), an error was introduced in editorial revision. On page 86, third column, second paragraph under the subheading "Infection Acquired Easily," the third and fourth sentences should be replaced with the following: "Histoplasma capsulatum, the causative agent of histoplasmosis (not P marneffei), can be found in construction sites and soil contaminated with bird and bat droppings worldwide. Penicilliosis caused by P marneffei is endemic in Southeast Asia. Unlike H capsulatum, P marneffei is not universally encountered. Environmental isolation to date has been associated with soil from bamboo rat burrows and bamboo rats in Southeast Asia and parts of China." This correction supersedes that published November 27, 1996.
