Abstract

—James F. Glenn, chairman and chief executive officer of the Council for Tobacco Research, published a letter in Science (1996;273:167) stating that a press statement attributed to the Council by Bero et al in "Lawyer Control of the Tobacco Industry's External Research Program: The Brown and Williamson Documents" (JAMA. 1995;274:241-247) was actually written by "one of the tobacco companies." The document in question is available on the Internet (http://www.library.ucsf.edu/tobacco/docs/html/1916.01/ index.html).
