Abstract

Comprehensive Gynecology Review, by Frank W Ling, Louis A. Vontver, Roger P. Smith, and Sharon T. Phelan, 3rd ed, 277 pp, with illus, paper, $33.95, ISBN 0-8151-5512-3, St Louis, Mosby, 1997.

The third edition of Comprehensive Gynecology by Mishell, Stenchever, Droegemueller, and Herbst is an out-standing review of the entire field and a monumental effort by four distinguished authors. The book has five parts: "Basic Sciences," "Comprehensive Evaluation of the Female," "General Gynecology," "Gynecologic Oncology," and "Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility." Each author brings his special expertise to this comprehensive edition. Any resident studying for the boards or any practicing physician who wants to update or refresh knowledge on any aspect of current practices in gynecology would do well to read this outstanding volume.

Particularly effective are the "Key Terms and Definitions" that begin each chapter. Also, each chapter ends with a summary of key points and has an alphabetical bibliography.
