Dear Dr. Fenger:  —While in Basle I attended the meetings of the Medical Society of Basle and of the Central Verein; the latter is a National society representing the German Cantons, and has 1,100 members. The Basle Medical Society met the evening before the meeting of the Central Verein, and was attended by many of the visitors. Professor Massini, the President, made a short address and introduced Professor Bunge, who read a paper on "The Formation of Fat in the Body, and the Causes of Obesity," the subject being treated from a strictly scientific and chemical standpoint.
