Unified Health System for Birmingham.  —After a conference between Dr. Francis E. Harrington, the new health officer of Jefferson County, and Dr. Cecil D. Gaston, city health officer of Birmingham, it was announced that Dr. Gaston would continue to act as city health officer. According to the plans for a unified health system prepared by Surg. Carroll Fox, U. S. P. H. S., the share of expense of the county for the new system will be about $30,000. The unified plan provides that the health supervision of the Birmingham public schools, now handled by the board of education, shall be placed under the supervision of the county health officer.
