There are books that are published for various purposes; In many cases the author gets so full of the subject that it is woe to him if he does not preach his gospel with the aid of printer's ink. The present work probably gives much more satisfaction to the author than it will to the average reader. The main point which he apparently tries to make is that there are three great forces in nature, vitality, chemical affinity and gravitation, co-existent and analogous. In this way he is practically a sort of materialist; we can not say that he has proven his case, or that his arguments and reasoning are such as would convince others as to the probability of his views.
