Abstract

This volume has come to hand with a note, stating that: "Owing to the destruction of the establishment of the State printer in the early part of 1895, the issue of this volume has been seriously delayed." On page 5 of the report of the Secretary, is a tribute to the late Dr. John H. Rauch, former secretary and president of the board of health of the State of Illinois, whose work as a sanitarian will ever endure. The contents of this volume are varied and interesting. It opens with the secretary's report and the minutes, and then is followed by the various reports of the different standing committees on registration and vital statistics, legislation, preventable diseases, water supply, drainage, etc., an account of the inspections, the annual reports of cities, towns, conferences and conventions—the whole forming an admirable book on public hygiene.
