The authoritative position of Gowers and his international reputation make it a work of supererogation for the reviewer to commend anything to which his name is attached, but while we commend the lectures and pay due deference to the great master who has prepared them, we extremely regret that there is no index in the volume, which is otherwise admirably printed.
