A novel test for tuberculosis (TB) that can shorten the wait for results from months to less than 2 hours has been endorsed by the World Health Organization (http://tinyurl.com/2fu844s). The fully automated nucleic acid amplification test does not need to be done in a laboratory and can be carried out while the patient waits, an improvement over the century-old standard sputum smear test, which takes up to 3 months to provide results.
